WELCOME TO THE

School of Humaning

We teach the things adult life assumed you already knew.

How to know what you want. Say what you mean. Stay connected to yourself when someone is disappointed. Repair after you cause harm. Build relationships that can hold the truth. Create a life that feels like yours.

Through essays, conversations, live classes, and immersive programs, School of Humaning offers the education most of us missed and a community in which to practice it.

Most of Us Were Educated for Performance,
Not Personhood

WE LEARNED HOW TO MEET DEADLINES, FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS, MAKE OURSELVES USEFUL, AND KEEP MOVING LONG AFTER OUR BODIES ASKED US TO STOP.

Then adult life expected us to know how to recognize our limits, make decisions we trust, disappoint people without abandoning ourselves, navigate conflict, repair after we cause harm, and build relationships that can survive the truth.

When we struggle with those things, we tend to make it personal.

Maybe you are too sensitive. Too needy. Too much. Not disciplined enough. Bad at relationships. Terrible at boundaries. Missing whatever quality makes other people seem so sure of themselves.

Or… Maybe you were expected to know skills no one ever taught you.

SCHOOL OF HUMANING EXISTS TO MAKE THAT MISSING EDUCATION VISIBLE, PRACTICAL AND AVAILABLE.

We study the patterns, stories, nervous systems, relationships, and inherited rules that shape how we move through the world. Then we practice new ways of responding in the places that matter most: our work, families, friendships, partnerships, leadership, and private lives.

Not so you can become endlessly calm, perfectly healed, or impossible to disappoint.

So you can know yourself more clearly. Tell the truth with more care. Make choices you can stand behind. Take responsibility without destroying yourself. Build a life that feels more honest, connected, and fully your own.

Come Learn With Us

YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT KIND OF SUPPORT YOU NEED BEFORE YOU ENTER.

You can begin with one essay that helps put words to something you have felt for years. A podcast conversation that changes how you see a relationship. A class that lets you try the work in real time.

There’s access points at all levels, from dipping-a-toe-in free tasters to full life-altering immersions into the work. Here’s what’s available right now:

LISTEN TO THE PODCAST

Honest conversations about the human problems that do not fit neatly into a five-step plan. We talk with people who are thinking deeply, living imperfectly, and willing to tell the truth about what they are learning.

What Students Say

“The past year in this program has opened so much in me. The masks are down, I don’t need to perform anything for anyone there, I get to learn who I am and who I’m becoming - and practice it all in a safe place. And then I get to take all the lessons and try it in places that have traditionally felt unsafe to me. I find myself getting braver and braver, and sharing more and more of myself.”

— Becky Wong

“As I entered a new relationship, I am allowing myself to use my voice, have my boundaries, be authentic, etc. in a way I never have before. I feel much more secure in relationship than I ever have before. Additionally, my relationships with my friends and family are flourishing and thriving.”

— Program participant

“I see and know the value of my skills, abilities & talent as a coach more than ever before. I am owning the power of my offerings and my work, and standing in my pricing with more authenticity. I have stopped people-pleasing in challenging situations with clients, and am instead identifying and speaking my own truth and holding my boundaries and my business as a leader, with greater personal integrity.”

— Haley Reese

The People Behind The School

School of Humaning is led by four core owners, and a team of teachers, mentors, interns, and graduate students who aren’t just teaching the concepts – they are living them.

At the School of Humaning, we believe in the lifelong dedication to learning, growth, development, and the ongoing practice of how to human better. We believe this work is for everyone, that relationships matter deeply, and that no matter what has happened in your past, when we engage in this work, your past does not define what is available to you in the future.

We practice a facilitator as member model, which means that the leadership team is constantly doing the work beside you, modeling what it means to go first and lead from the front of the room, never asking you to do something that they would not do themselves and do in front of you.

We also practice a non-hierarchical leadership style. We believe strongly that leadership is best when it’s in collaboration with others, and reject the outdated notion that leadership, mentorship, and therapeutic work is safest or most effective from a power-over dynamic, denying the humanity of the one “in charge” or “in the seat” in order to heal, teach, or lead the ones in their charge.

As a team, we study together. We challenge each other. We receive feedback, change our minds, repair when something goes wrong, and practice the same skills we teach every single day.

No pedestals. No pretending that expertise makes anyone less human.

Just highly skilled, deeply caring humans committed to teaching with integrity, care, honesty, and a deep respect for your ability to think for yourself.
